Masca village: Tenerife's traditional stone houses and mountain heritage
Discover Masca's stone architecture, Canary Island palms, agricultural terraces and rural history in the Teno mountains.

Perched among steep slopes in north-west Tenerife, Masca is one of the most distinctive villages in the Teno massif. Traditional houses, narrow paths, terraced fields and tall Canary Island palms create a memorable mountain landscape.
Older buildings were built from locally available materials, including volcanic stone, timber, cane and clay. Their design reflects generations of experience living on difficult terrain with limited resources.
Water shaped the history of Masca. Agricultural terraces and historic paths preserve traces of rural work long before modern road access connected the village to the rest of Tenerife.
Enjoy Masca at a gentle pace, respect private property and leave space for residents and local traffic. Hiking into the neighbouring gorge is regulated, so always check official access requirements before planning the walk.
